Phew...

So, I made it 120 days into my New Year's Resolution / goal of posting an ACEO every day on Etsy with a portion of proceeds going to Farm Sanctuary and Unicef. 1/3 of the year isn't a bad showing!

But then this third semester hit, and several major campaigns with it, and part-time work, still, and trying to ensure that I have funding for my next semester of school... and ...

I didn't make day 121.

That doesn't mean I'm going to stop! But it does mean I'm going to take a brief hiatus to catch up on everything else before I crash. I'll draw whenever I can, and have a bit of a buffer to work with when school starts up again in the fall.

It won't be 365 cards this year; I'm readjusting the goal to 300. That's still quite a few!

I'm going to set a date of return for August 1st, then I'll know I will be all finished with exams and all of that fun stuff!

Good morning, everyone! Happy 2016!

2015 was an incredibly busy and eventful year. Left the job, back in school at last, finally working toward that teaching license I had started out on the path to years ago.

But in the run-up to that, which was quite chaotic, art rather went by the wayside. That's why, in the new year, I'm going to resolve to draw something new every day. Naturally, that means the return of the Drawn to Help project. I think I'll start with baby animals for January - it seems time for a fresh start and the infinite possibility that represents!

I'm going to keep it simple this year, and split the donations between UNICEF and Farm Sanctuary, both of whom are wonderful about helping those most desperately in need.

New cards will be posted here and on Etsy. And if you're a stock photographer who wants to be part of this year's project, let me know! 366 references is a lot - suggestions are welcome, and the less time I spend waiting for permission to use stock, the more time I can spend working on them!

Many thanks to everyone who has helped me keep going through the years, through both aid and encouragement. You rock!

All the best for the new year!

It is said that your life flashes before your eyes before you die. It's true, it's called Life. - Terry Pratchett

As many of you will know, one of the world's best-loved authors died yesterday. There is nothing I can say about Terry that he could not have said better himself. So I wish to pay tribute with what skill I can offer, and plan on composing a rather over-the-top illustration of the children of his mind.

If anyone out there would like to take part in being part of this project (it's going to take a while, I'm sure), I will be needing reference photos. If you feel like you look like or identify with a character of Discworld (here's a list of them) and wouldn't mind sharing a face/pose reference (standing, mostly - I'll need to fit a lot of characters in; don't worry about costume, I have the books and my imagination for that), send me a note or leave a message here on my DA page. I can't afford to pay everyone for their contribution, but I will be happy to send you the original sketch of your character, if you want it. As people volunteer, I'll write a list here of characters who have been claimed, so you can move on to your second-favourite.

Characters Cast:

Magrat Garlick: :iconmirachravaia:
Adora Belle Dearheart aka Spike: :iconstelari:
Rincewind: :iconcamishart:
Captain Carrot: :iconsakiko-seihikaru:
Lord Vetinari: :icondas-diddy:
Moist von Lipwig: :iconcapnmckay:
Nanny Ogg: :iconmoon-crafter:
Susan: :iconytril:
Lady Margolotta: :iconvitaminanime:
Nobby Nobbs: T.R.
The Bursar: P.P.
William de Worde: N.G.
Death of Rats: Himself

We love you, Sir Terry. We hope you are enjoying your purple-environed existence. With cats.

On an unrelated note, I have had the honour of being featured in two recent issues of CP Magazine, Ann Kullberg's publication for coloured pencil artists; first with a ACEO tutorial article in December, 2014, and this month with the cover and full artist's profile. Very exciting!

Many thanks to :iconbleuie: for making it possible.

... Like a tea-tray in the sky.

Yes, I'm having a white-rabbit moment, as I only just realized that it's November! Not will be - is!

I do have the November set of cards started, and will catch up on posting them just as soon as I have a day off on Monday.

Many thanks to :iconhotnstock: for the information and suggestion of wolves as the focus of this set's donations. Since being de-listed from the endangered species list (a political move, not a scientific one), their populations have plummeted. The best way you can help? Learn about them! The more you understand, the easier it is to dispel the fears of people you may know who feel threatened by them. I recommend the 'Wolves and Humans' section of the Oregon Wild website: oregonwild.org/wildlife/wolves…

And thanks to everyone who voted in the poll! You make it easier to live with my indecisive nature. ;)

Suggestions?

Hello, hello! Since this month is coming to a close, and with it the newest set of cards to benefit WaterAid, I thought I would start opening up the suggestion box as to who you think should be the next donation recipient. Then we can have voting starting in, say, mid-October, and know who we're going with for the next set in November or December.

So you know, preference is given to causes which have a proven track record (I do take a look at their list of achievements, and their rating to make sure the bulk isn't going to advertising and administrative bonuses), and while all causes are considered, those most likely to make the short-list generally have a humanitarian or environmental/conservation theme. But, that being said, we have chosen causes based in the arts, literacy and education as well. So, recommend away! No cause is too local, or to large-scale. All will be considered.

P.S. I am always on the lookout for great reference photos. If you are a photographer, particularly a wildlife photographer, and don't mind your work being used for traditional art reference, and for a good cause, let me know!
